Our Modus Operandi

Impelled by certain knowledge that the reconstruction aid meant for Tamil areas of Sri Lanka does not necessarily reach every nook and corner of our Tamil Homeland, and inspired by the thought that something positive had to be done redress the problem, some of us, the Tamil community activists have got together and formed a charitable organization this year, under the name “New Opportunities for Wounded, Widowed and Orphans of War, Inc. (acronym: NOW-WOW)”. The mandate that we have given ourselves is to serve the needs of those who have fallen through the cracks.

In the immediate past, we have used the services of two of the local parliamentarians and/or the local church group to in identifying the potential needy, assessing their needs and prioritize the help. (However, we remain strictly neutral, politically or religion-wise)

Active Project Highlights

A project to supply school supplies to the needy students of Batticaloa district is the most ambitious of the projects that we have undertaken yet. We are still in the fund-raising mode. We are also in the process of fine-tuning the needs assessment submitted to us. Upon completion of the project, we would have served the needs of over 2000 students by providing them with school supplies or free tuition, in the process, also engaging the services of some of the 4000 unemployed graduates at negotiated fees. The project can get much more massive depending on the enthusiastic help and support that we can get from you. An informal survey indicates that the war-torn and tsunami-affected Tamil school children are running last in their achievement ranking among the three communities.
